Six reasons why you should join the Oregon Reading Association and the Emerald Empire Reading Council

1 Keep abreast of current literacy research and events through ORA's newsletter, The ORAcle, and EERC's bimonthly newsletter, The Literacy Line.

These outstanding newsletters feature a wide range of engaging articles on literacy, ORA/EERC activities and programs, opportunities for inservice workshops, teacher tips, teaching ideas, and other related topics. They offer comprehensive and up-to-date information on literacy teaching strategies.

2 Receive special literacy materials for free!

The ORA has an extensive, up-to-date professional lending library. All you pay is the postage. The EERC newsletter always containsworksheets that are ready to use or that can be adapted for your needs.

3 Attend the ORA State Conference and/or EERC's Literacy Conference and save on registration fees.

You won't want to miss either of these events! The annual ORA Conference is held in February. The EERC's Literacy Conference is held on Statewide Inservice Day in October. Check the websites for dates and programs.

4 Network with other professionals interested in literacy.

Sharing ideas helps educators stay fresh and effective. By becoming an ORA member, you can network with others interested in promoting lifelong literacy at both the local and state levels. Being a member also allows you to join one of the EERC TAR (Teachers as Readers) Groups to read and discuss favorite books.

5 Take advantage of the educational resources available to ORA members.

The ORA has a wide variety of resources to share with members: a professional lending library, video tapes of children's authors, a speakers' bureau, reading lists, parent involvement material, and more. The Emerald Empire Reading Council offers educational programs throughout the year, sponsors book discussion groups (Teachers As Readers groups) and has booklists (adult and children's) available.

6 You can join both the ORA and the Emerald Empire Reading Council for just $25!

An ORA membership offers so much and costs surprising little - just $25 a year. Don't delay. Send in your membership application today. (Click here for membership application) or download a form.
